Fall Project

My Fall Project this year started with learning how to spin. :) Andrea, of BadCat Designs, and her daughter (BadKitten) dyed some fiber and sent it around the country to several of their spinning/knitting friends. You can see the original fiber here and what I have started doing with it above. This is my first attempt at spinning for a specific project, in this case a scarf that Andrea has "gestating" as I type.

In knitting news I am slowly progressing on my "green blob", no picture this time it is at a point where I can't stretch it out and when you have seen one blob of lace you have seen them all. Soon I will be working on the color change and you might get a picture then. :) My Dark Star has come out of her time out, I hope she has learned her lesson and will behave for me now.

I also have a couple of stealth Christmas Projects on the needles, you will see them later in the year.

Anna Dalvi has another design in the works. She is the creator of the Mystic knits, Mystic Waters, Earth, Air, Light, Meadows, Roses, Star, Ice and now Mystic Embers. I have knit all of her designs, many of them twice or three times!

You should check it out. :)

Holiday Mystery Knitting

Holiday Mystery Knits officially started on September 19th, as always there are some full patterns with pictures and some quickie mystery knits. I missed taking a picture of the first part of this mystery, here you have clues 1 and 2. It looks suspiciously like a thumb on the one edge, but with one more clue to go I am still puzzled about what it really is!

When the paper was pulled off it revealed two Golding spindles. These both have 2 inch whorls and weight less than 1/2 an ounce. They spin for miles, if only I could draft that well!! Please excuse the bad pictures I took and run over to the Golding website for better ones.

What's she up to now?

I had to miss going to a fiber festival this past weekend, work blew up and I had to be there with a fire extinguisher to dowse the flames....

To make it up to myself I might have gone a little overboard!

Can't show you much

Although I could show you pictures of the recent stash acquisitions, I just haven't taken them yet. :)

This past week I have spent working on things that remain a secret, a sock - yep just one so far- and spinning.

I leave you with a picture of the spinning.

That time of year again

If you haven't started at least planning your Holiday knitting yet, what are you waiting for?

I am one of those horrible people that already has things stashed away, but my countdown to Christmas includes some birthdays that are between American Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. Even with starting in January there are presents that are gifted on-the-needles but there is help to be had.

Holiday Mystery Gifts on Yahoo is getting ready to start posting patterns. It is free to join and last year I knit several things from this group to round out my Holiday knitting.

As of my typing this there are 103 days until Christmas, how much knitting do you have to do in those days?

Ribbit, ribbit

If you search around the web you can find lots of tips for lace knitting. One of the biggies out there is how to put in a lifeline, go ahead google and see how many results come back, I'll wait...

Done?

How many did you get? With a very specific search I got 17,900 of very easy to follow instructions...but did I ever use them? No.

You can even find instructions for putting one in AFTER you have knit past where you want one. Less results, but still 7,400 is still a lot of help. Did I use it...well I tried but black yarn, tiny needles not much hope of catching each and every stitch, so I took my courage in both hands and starting to rip.

I frogged my knitting over the chart with the wrong-way-charlie facing down so that the beads would all fall where I could get them....and I ripped VERY slowly right the way to the last couple of rows I wanted taken out. Supporting the weight on the piece on the table I then slowly pulled out the last two rows and without moving it much (Lacey Lamb is slick and given a chance a stray stitch with a little tension on it would find my provisional cast on before I could whimper...nooooo....) picked the stitches back up on a 0000 needle. Good thing I had one of those just hanging around. :)

A quick count...oh drat 49 stitches...well maybe I will find it when I knit across, and sure enough just under half way through knitting those stitches I found two that were twisted together. Success all 50 stitches picked up right where I needed to knit one more row.

I will triple check I am on the "right" side this time around.

ShugarPlums

Can you see what I did? If only I believed in life lines, frogging Lacey Lamb is NOT going to be fun.

Never mind

Does anyone really care how many seconds to New Moon? I tried moving the counter so they would show and it was a real pain to scroll all the way to the bottom.

Grumble, wasn't planning on going to the midnight showing anyhow.
