String Art

 Into each life...a little silliness!

Three different sizes of macrame rings (I have no idea why they were hanging around the house, I don't macrame ) but when they floated to the top of the pile of "odds and ends" in the catch all drawer of the craft room, I knew I wanted to use them for something.

Shown above in 3, 4 and 5 inch sizes, these little ornaments take just a little bit of crochet or perle cotton and a little bit of "weaving" for the "string art" portion.

You can get the pattern on Ravelry, LoveKnitting and PatternVine!

As always, my newsletter subscribers heard about the pattern first and got a discount as well...if you would like to receive the "pattern is live" updates and discounts for future patterns, subscribe by filling out the form on the upper right hand side of this page!

I have just a little bit of knitting to get done in the next couple of days...a heel, a foot and toe to one sock and my Christmas knitting will be complete! Are you crafting holiday gifts?  Panicking about being done in time, or smugly finished and enjoying a relaxing holiday?

Busy, Busy

I don't know if it was just that Thanksgiving was so close to Christmas this year, or if it is just my continued always feeling like I am a day/week/month behind where I should be, but December is halfway over and I am not ready for it at all!

There has been quite a bit going on in my life, so maybe that added to the "oh my gosh another day has flown by" feeling.

First up...The Indie Gift Along is in full swing.

So far I have three finished objects and one in process knit for the event!

First up...some darling little booties (the pattern includes full size versions and a mini that you can use as a tree decoration and hide little gifts in, by Helen Gipson.  Shape Your Booties.

Second, some thick warm socks by Sarah M Goodwin, Instant Winter Socks

Third, International Cowl by Tanja Luescher

and now Marinus Socks by Tracey Lee.

The After Party Gals Xmas Socks Mystery Knit Along on IG is nearly half way through!  This is the second time that we have done a "round robin" sock design and it, again, was a lot of fun.

I have also, nearly, finished the knitting on another piece playing with self striping yarns.  It has been my "waiting in the parking lot" knitting for a while now , so really only got worked on for about 20 minutes a day. All those 20 minute bursts really do add up, though, it is close to 1200 yards of fingering weight yarn

So, lots of knitting has been happening and behind the scenes planning the release schedule for next years patterns.

But before we get to 2020...some final things for 2019!

If you haven't already signed up for the newsletter, now is the time. Subscribers will be getting a special Gift Discount this month for a silly, but fun project!

Sign up now, over there at the right hand side of this blog and tune in this week for String Art!

Until next time...Happy Knitting!

Goes with...

What goes with...cold weather, jeans, a skirt or maybe even a dress?

A shawl of course!

So many of my shawls are very lacy, filled with nupps and beads and while I am comfortable wearing them with just about everything, I really wanted a more rustic, cozy shawl to cuddle up in during those chilly fall and winter evenings and misty morning walks.

Love and Marriage, available from Knotions brings together the rustic feel of pure Shetland Wool (from Liverpool Yarns) with a squishy traditional stitch motif and a spattering of leaves.

The model totally rocks this shawl with jeans...and TDQ does the same with a dress!

In other news...the biggest pattern sale and craft along of the year is coming really soon on Ravelry!  The Indie Gift Along starts up in just a couple of days!

What is it?

The Indie Design Gift-A-Long is a 5 week long KAL/CAL of holiday gifts made from patterns designed by a rather extensive list of independent designers. From November 26th, 2019 at 8:00 pm US EST through December 2nd at 11:59pm US EST tons of indie designers will be discounting between 10 - 20 of their patterns 25% for this event. Ask a Busy Person

I heard a long time ago, that if you want something done, to ask a busy person to do it!  Something about people who are busy having to really structure their time to fit everything in...

I used to think I was that busy person!  Full time job, part time job, non-profit work, family, home...and it all seemed to get done even when someone would say "Hey, can I add this one more thing to your plate?"

The past few weeks I have certainly not been that person!

All the "I have to do this to keep our lives running" was done...everyone got where they were supposed to be, when they were supposed to be there, the deadline knitting was done by the deadline, clients got their calls on time and yet...nothing got posted here about not one but two finished objects I wanted to talk about!

So, we'll jump in now and pretend really hard that it is Friday, not Saturday and this is a Friday Finished Object post.

Can you pretend that for me?

First up is this glorious cowl by Kelly G and available through Knotions in the e-book Cable Star.

I was lucky enough to get a preview of the pattern and I knew I had to cast it on right away, in purple, for the purple loving TDQ.

The knitting went very quickly on this one and I adore the way that it can be worn over your ears to keep the wind off them during the long, dark, cold days of winter.

Mine is knit in KnitPicks Wool of the Andes Superwash and the only thing I did differently than the pattern suggests was to pick up all the stitches needed for the edging (without knitting them) before starting the edge.

Obviously, as it is purple, she loves it!

Next up...while we are talking about cables...my newest pattern with Knotions The Gate Post Hat...

For this hat I wanted something "interesting to knit, unisex and very stretchy" to fill the needs of so many non-profits trying to keep people warm during those long, dark, cold days of winter.

Knit in a sport weight yarn (which is not a weight I am usually drawn to!) the knitting goes quickly and the double thickness at the brim certainly keeps your (or the recipients) ears warm!

Follow the link above for the fancy, professional photos...here are the "amateur hour" pictures we did before sending the hat to the professional photographer!

And with that...I have household chores to do...seems cleaning bathrooms fell down to under "blog" on the "need to do" list.

Happy Knitting!
